DAY 17 (Thursday)
I’m not really sure what my child photographer did to the colours today, but it was a weird photo! Ha!

*Jeans are something I’ve been thinking about a lot lately. I have a hard time fitting them into my dream of a handmade wardrobe, if I’m totally honest. I LOVE the act of sewing jeans, but I find it difficult to source denim that looks and feels the way I would like it to. In addition, I’m fortunate to be someone who doesn’t struggle to find RTW jeans that fit nicely. So it seems foolish to spend time constructing a pair of jeans made out of denim that isn’t as stretchy/soft/high quality as I would like, when I can just go out and buy a pair of RTW jeans that are made out of denim that is a pleasure to wear, and fit me right off the bat.
The problem is that I’m less interested in participating in the cycle of new garment production than I’ve ever been, hence part of the reason why I enjoy making my own clothes in the first place! Such a conundrum caused by the humble jeans! I do have several pairs of jeans that fit me nicely, but I also have some gaps in my jeans wardrobe that have been niggling me for a little while now. (I wear jeans almost exclusively during the winter months – and, let’s face it this is Melbourne, so during some of the warmer months too – so I try not to feel too bad about having several pairs in different cuts/colours/styles/etc …!)
All this to say that recently I’ve experimented with buying secondhand jeans from thrift stores (Am I the last person in the world to get into thrifting?!). And do you know what? I’m sold! It’s amazing what’s out there in the secondhand market once you start looking! This week I’ve filled a handful of gaps in my closet with thrifted jeans, simultaneously saving unwanted existing garments from landfill, and saving myself a huge chunk of change! Maybe I’ll do a full post on my recent thrift store finds sometime …
Okay, back to regularly schedued MMM18 programming!
DAY 19 (Saturday)
Today’s MMMay picture is brought to you from in front of our partially constructed house!
DAY 20 (Sunday)
Me Made May brunch in South Yarra edition!
Ethel Designer Top | Blackwood Cardigan | Thrifted jeans
DAY 21 (Monday)
Kalle Shirt in cotton lawn | Secondhand black RTW jeans | RTW Coatigan
So there’s the third week of MMMay done! I have to admit that although I love wearing my me made clothes, the weather has cooled quite a bit since the beginning of May, and I’m still building the cool weather side of my handmade wardrobe. My options for staying warm are pretty limited! There are definitely some gaps to fill!
