Rather than bore my IG followers with daily OOTD photos for Me Made May, I figured I’d just do a weekly wrap up of my outfits over here on the blog.
That said, I wear me-made when possible every day anyway (the general exceptions are my jeans, which are RTW but still favourites so I’m not ready to replace them), so I don’t really feel like I need any extra encouragement in that department! I suppose my aim this month is to explore difference combinations of me-made garments, rather than just getting stuck in the rut of wearing the same pieces together in the same way all the time. I’m definitely prone to having favourite outfits that I regularly default to!
With that out of the way, here’s my week 1 round up (complete with dodgy mirror selfies!)!
DAY 1 (Tuesday)
It felt good to kick off the month with a new garment, and a new ‘bottom’ garment at that! I love these new Arenite Pants, and I think they paired fairly well with my new linen Maya Top, though the outfit almost felt a little too dull, which surprised me, given that I generally love the grey and white colour combo. I feel like this pairing needs something else to really make it pop. Another layer?! A top in a different colour or print?! I need to play with this!
DAY 2 (Wednesday)
I discovered this outfit during my recent 10×10 challenge and it’s been a huge favourite for me ever since. I love this light colour palette, and I feel instantly put together when I wear this outfit. The culottes are comfortable and practical for anything I might need to do during a day, so I can throw this outfit on in the morning without even needing to stop to consider if I’m going to be playing on the floor at home all day, helping in my childrens’ classrooms, or going out for coffee/lunch.
DAY 3 (Thursday)
I struggled a bit in the morning with what to wear today. I was giving a talk to my daughter’s class about our time in Indonesia in the afternoon so I needed something that was appropriate for a classroom. Initially I threw on a pair of jeans, but the weather is unseasonally warm for May at the moment, and I just couldn’t resist getting one more wear out of some of my warmer weather clothes! Jeans season will be here to stay before we know it!
In the end I settled on my white linen New Look 6459 pants with my floral Ethel Top. I don’t think I ever got around to blogging this top, but I made it out of my second failed Hannah Dress. Any time I pulled that dress out to wear it I always took it straight off, and I didn’t want it hanging in the closet making me feel bad anymore! Now I wear this top a lot, so I’m much happier! It’s also the second Ethel Top I’ve made from a failed Hannah Dress, so perhaps that’s telling me something. Haha!
DAY 4 (Friday)
I guess Melbourne finally realised it’s supposed to be getting ready for winter because that warm weather we’ve been enjoying is well and truly gone! A chilly, wet and windy day called for warmth, and an afternoon helping in my son’s classroom called for something comfortable and practical. (And a hurried morning getting everyone ready for the day meant I had precious few minutes to worry about what I was going to wear!)

DAY 5 (Saturday)
Mixing it up today with a combo I’ve never worn together before! I don’t often wear this aqua linen Leni Top for some reason. I think it’s a combination of not having enough high waisted bottoms to pair it with, plus a slightly tricky colour. I’m not falling off my chair in excitement over this outfit (some jewellery would have helped, I think), but it feels good to give a neglected me-made some love!
Bonus (unphotographed) me-made: When we got home in the afternoon it was really chilly in the house so I switched out my thin Blackwood Cardigan for my hand knitted Ronan Cardigan which is much squishier and cozier!
DAY 6 (Sunday)
Melbourne delivered a glorious autumn day today, perfect for a family lunch at a gorgeous new-to-us cafe within a park, overlooking a huge playground.
It was also the first outing for these new jeans, which are sadly NOT me-made, but I did pick them up at a thrift store last weekend, so they get sustainability points instead. I’m still deciding where to hem them, so I’m wearing them pinned up while I experiment with different lengths!
DAY 7 (Monday)
I got an interesting collection of pictures back from my child photographer this morning as I was simultaneously trying to hustle everybody into the car for school drop offs, and this was the best of the bunch!
Obviously I’m still trying to milk every wear our of my warm weather clothes while the weather is still reasonably nice!
Well there we have it! The end of week 1! The main take away point from this week is that I clearly need to make more Blackwood Cardigans! I’ve been on the look out for nice fabrics for a while now, but haven’t come across anything I’ve loved enough to pull the trigger. I’ll keep looking and wearing my first one to death in the meantime!
I also have a feeling I’m going to start struggling a bit as week 2 wears on. Winter is starting to approach and my handmade winter wardrobe is lacking, to say the least! Oh well, we’ll see how it goes! See you next week for the week 2 round up!
