Kalle Shirt number 3!

February 2, 2018

I have to say, there really aren’t too many patterns I’ve made three times. I’m often doing well if I make something more than once! So it’s a testament to my Kalle love affair that I have put the finishing stitches on version number three, with at least another one or two planned for the future!

For this version I went for a straight view A – meaning the cropped length, concealed placket, and band collar. The only change I made was to lengthen it by 4 inches. The last time I made the cropped shirt I only added 2 inches, and guess what? I never wear it! Sad panda. So I learned from that experience and went longer! As you can see it still only grazes the top of my jeans, but I’m fine with that, I don’t want to lose the cropped feel entirely, I just didn’t feel like having a huge swath of skin showing

I love the back of the Kalle. That inverted pleat (Maybe one day I should try the box pleat?), the curved hi-low hemline. I love all of it! Looking at these photos I’m wondering if perhaps in future I should experiment with going up a size next time. More billowing in the back and that sort of thing. Hmmm. Things to consider for version 4!

The fabric here is a gorgeous lawn from Carolyn Friedlander’s lawn Friedlander collection. I picked it up from Clair’s Fabrics a few weeks ago and it is a delight to sew with. I’ve already turned the remaining large scraps into bias tape so I can use as much of it as I can and enjoy it in even more garments in the future! Yay!

Meanwhile, it feels so good to blog again! The last 7 months have been pretty crazy with moving back to Melbourne from Indonesia, and then having to move again right before Christmas. But things tend to work out for the best and I now have a bit more space and much better light than I did before. Fingers crossed I can turn that into more frequent blog posts!

Details:

Pattern: Kalle shirt by Closet Case Patterns, View A.
Size: 2
Fabric: Cotton lawn by Carolyn Friedlander/Robert Kaufman Fabrics, purchased at Clair’s Fabrics.

It would definitely be VERY cropped in it’s unaltered state, I can’t imagine wearing it without added length! Haha! Good look with yours!
