Last week there was an Indonesian national holiday on Thursday, so Kev took the Friday off and we flew off to Bali for a long weekend. Sort of a final Indonesian hurrah, if you like!
It was my first time flying out of the shiny new Terminal 3 at Jakarta airport. Currently only Garuda Airlines flies out of it, and they just brought their international flights over from terminal 2 in May, so the last flights I took, back in April, were in and out of the old terminal.
It’s a VAST improvement over the old terminal 2! I still have to wonder at some of the planning choices they’ve made, however the facilities are so much better! It’s nice to finally feel like Jakarta has a modern airport!
It was actually my first visit to the island of Bali, so I was excited to see what all the hype is all about! We were travelling with some friends of ours, another family, so we opted to rent a private 4 bedroom villa rather than stay in a hotel.
We were so happy with our choice. It was lovely to have our own private pool for the kids to enjoy, and each morning we had a hot breakfast cooked fresh in the kitchen by villa staff at a time of our own choosing.
Not where we stayed. I just liked the lanterns in the trees, haha!
It was so nice to be able to walk freely around the streets. Walking is one thing you really can’t do in Jakarta. Apart from the poor quality air that you really don’t want to spend too much time breathing, there are very few footpaths, at least in our area. In Bali the air is so much fresher, there are footpaths everywhere, and it’s just perfect for walking and exploring.
We stayed in Seminyak, which is a nice, family friendly area. The beach was busy, but not unpleasantly so. The water stayed shallow a long way out, the waves were small in the shallows, and the kids loved it!
While the kids were enjoying the sun, sand and salt water, I ducked off to do some shopping. Oh yes, the shopping was great. I bought jewellery, shoes, clothes. My prize purchase was a red linen dress I’ve been obsessed with since first seeing a friend of mine wear a cream version about a year and a half ago! Every time I see it on her I’m always quietly trying to examine the lines to figure out how to make a replica, haha! In the end I just bit the bullet and bought one for myself!
The view from lunch at Gado Gado on Friday. Life is tough in Bali!
Yep, we did a lot of eating! Dinner at Chandi.
After dinner that night we went to La Favela for some drinks and dancing. I’m definitely not 22 anymore!
Loved this brightly patterned staircase at Batik restaurant!
Our last night we had dinner at Metis. Delicious!
Lunch at Mama San on the way to the airport. It wasn’t really our kids ideal cup of tea, but everyone else loved it!
Good times and good food were enjoyed by all! I definitely get the Bali thing now! My son in particular fell totally in love with the place. Ever since we got back he’s been talking non stop about “next time we go to Bali!”. Such a shame it won’t be quite so convenient once we move back home! So silly that it took us two years to get here! Oh well, we made it in the end. Thanks for a great weekend Bali!
